INTRODUCTION TO BOCCE
Thursdays in June (June 4, 11, 18, 25) at 10:00am-11:00am
Sign up for one of our Introduction to Bocce sessions with David Carchia offered in June. Outdoor time on the Bocce court will be dependent on the outdoor construction project. Learn about scoring, the court, Bocce rules and more! We have a Bocce set and a Bocce court – there might be Bocce in your future! Be sure to dress for the weather and bring sun screen and water and if desired a folding chair. 16 per session, wait list available, we may be able to offer additional sessions. This 6 - class session is for the person who has never played Mahjong before. Learn all the basics of American Mahjong, and gain the ability to sit down at any table and be ready to play the game. Mahjong has become a very popular game over the years and is a great way to socialize and meet people of all ages. This class meets for 6 sessions total and you should plan to attend all 6 classes. Art for Your Mind: The Art of Ancient Greece

Art For Your Mind is an engaging, educational, art observation experience designed to broaden the minds of its participants. Presentations are for people of all backgrounds – artists and non-artists alike. The featured topic, The Art of Ancient Greece, is an overview of the amazing innovations in Ancient Greek architecture, pottery, and sculpture—which forever changed the world of art. Focusing on Greece’s famous Classical Period, we’ll make surprising connections with ancient Rome as well as our own modern culture. AUTHOR SERIES WITH SUSAN FRANCIS MORRIS (MEMOIR)

Susan Frances Morris is the award-winning author of the memoir The Sensitive One, published by She Writes Press in August 2021. She holds a bachelor's degree in nursing and spent her career primarily in women's health. She holds a certificate in Creative Nonfiction from the UCLA Extension program and is enrolled in Bay Path University's MFA program. Her work has appeared in Authority magazine, Covey Club, and The Stylist-UK. She blogs for the CPTSD Foundation website. NEW BIRDING GROUP WITH BIRDER SALLY AVERY

If you would be interested in becoming part of a birdwatching group, join Sally Avery on June 10th at 9 AM at the Marshfield Senior Center for a short meeting. We will determine how much interest there might be and how frequently people would like to meet, be it monthly or biweekly. Afterwards we will walk Webster’s Wilderness behind the center to observe birds which should be well into their breeding cycle. Bring binoculars if you have them and dress appropriately for the weather and don’t forget to use sunblock and insect repellents to protect yourself. Sally has been leading bird walks for over 25 years at a number South Shore sites for Mass Audubon, The Trustees, and the South Shore Bird Club among others. She has taught birding classes at the Duxbury and Marshfield Senior Centers, the Hingham Library, and for Mass Audubon. In addition, over the years she has lectured to a good many of the garden clubs found in Eastern Massachusetts. ARTIFACTS OF BLACKS STRUGGLING TO WORK IN CIVIL WAR ERA BOSTON

Slideshow on Artifacts of Blacks Struggling to Work in Civil War Era Boston Discrimination against Irish workers in Civil War era Boston has been extensively reported in the media, but less has been written about the even more severe treatment of Black workers. On Thursday June 25 at 1:00 pm a slideshow will feature Artifacts of Blacks Struggling to Work in Civil War Era Boston. This show will present photographs of individuals involved in the struggle for fair employment and employers who openly expressed prejudice to Blacks and other minorities. Accounts of discords will be shown along with images of locations where conflict arose and some objects that played a role in confrontations. Also illustrated will be some inferior manufactured goods and tools specifically marketed to Black consumers. The speaker will be antiques journalist Bob Jackman. OPTIONAL: If you have an artifact relating to Black struggles in Civil War era Boston, bring it to the presentation, and Bob will be happy to offer comments. Admission is free. While the talk will be organized around a sequence of 70 slides, the atmosphere will be informal with questions and answers throughout the presentation. Expect to learn a bit, share some laughs, and have a good time. Sign up ahead.
