ART FOR YOUR MIND “EARLY AMERICAN ART: REVOLUTIONARY IMAGES”

Art For Your Mind is an engaging, educational, art observation experience designed to broaden the minds of its participants. Presentations are for people of all backgrounds – artists and non-artists alike. The featured topic, Early American Art: Revolutionary Images, offers an opportunity to rediscover famous people, places, and events of the Revolutionary War, primarily through the eyes of artists who experienced it. From the Boston Massacre to the surrender at Yorktown—interpret images of America’s turbulent start, and increase your awareness of the many ways art can tell a story. GRIEF AND LOSS SUPPORT GROUP WITH BEACON HOSPICE
Fridays, from 2:00-3:00pm for 8 weeks starting September 12
The Chaplain from Beacon Hospice will facilitate a group on the grief journey and make space to share stories of loved ones. This eight week support group will offer a time for a small group to talk about grief and loss and take strength from time spent in a supportive environment. Pickleball is a fun and relatively easy sport to learn. Sign up for one session of this basic introduction class to get started. Focus will be on understanding the basic rules including the serve, bounces, and the “kitchen” (the non-volley zone). Limit 10 per session, per-registration required. MASS AUDUBON PRESENTS: NIGHT CHORUS

Summer evenings are accompanied by a natural soundscape that changes with the season, peaking in late summer. This presentation will focus on the creatures making all that racket, why and how they are sounding off, and who is listening. We'll consider sound production and the specialized anatomy involved in it, along with unique behaviors of sound-producing insects. Learn to differentiate and recognize common night sounds, and the ideal timing for when you're most likely to hear them. A TASTE OF ITALY - LUNCH AND ENTERTAINMENT

Doors open at 11:30. The lunch is “A Taste of Italy” that will include baked ziti, meatballs with sauce, garlic roll, chocolate fudge cake and SF cookie. FRANKLY SPEAKING: UNINVITED VISITORS – THE WORST HURRICANES TO HIT MASSACHUSETTS

No one invited them, but those summertime visitors came anyway. Although Donna, Carol, Edna, Gloria, Bob and Irene didn’t stay for long, they caused death and destruction across Massachusetts. We’ll explore these six destructive hurricanes as well as the Great Hurricane of 1938. The presentation will be followed by a weather themed raffle. If you’d like, bring along memorabilia from one or more of these hurricanes to show off to fellow attendees before or after the presentation. ESSENTIAL FIRST AID TRAINING WITH THE PLYMOUTH COUNTY DA OFFICE
